Candidacy for Ministry Process

STEP 1: TALK WITH YOUR PASTOR

Talk with your home church pastor, or other ordained deacon or elder, about your call.

STEP 2: CONTACT YOUR DISTRICT

Contact the district via email with candidacy request.

  • Send request for candidacy via email or letter to your district’s Conference Superintendent or Associate Conference Superintendent and the Chair of the District Committee on Ministry (dCOM) explaining your call (Statement of Call). Contact information can be found here.
  • Meet with Conference Superintendent, Associate Conference Superintendent, or dCOM Chair
  • Conference Superintendent will send form to Administrator of Ministerial Services for a background check request. This is the first step in the process.
  • Complete questionnaire received from Ministry Safe on behalf of Ministerial Services in order to complete background check.
STEP 3: MEET WITH YOUR SPRC

Meet with Pastor (Staff) Parish Relations Committee (or equivalent) at your church.

  • “You will upload form 104a and Form 104b (Staff Parish Recommendation) to eBridge, by following the instructions sent to you by the Administrator of Ministerial Services.
STEP 4: eBridge
  • Luska Natali creates profile in eBridge and sends out email with instructions for setting up portal.
  • Set up profile in eBridge in a timely fashion (password is time-sensitive).
  • Complete steps in Indiana Candidacy Track. 
  • Submit payment of $375 to cover retreat registration. You may
    pay by check or request an invoice from the Administrator of Ministerial Services, Luska Natali.
  • You will receive a copy of “Answering the Call,” the candidacy guidebook, at the retreat.
    Notify your dCOM Chair that you have completed all of the above steps.
STEP 5: GET READY FOR THE RETREAT

 

  • Next retreat date is July 12-13, 2024. Deadline to submit paperwork and remit payment is June 1, 2024. Location of retreat: Fort Harrison Inn, 5830 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216

  •  Read chapters 1 & 5 of Answering the Call before attending the retreat (a digital copy will be provided to you by the Administrator of Ministerial Services)
STEP 6: ATTEND THE RETREAT

Attend the Candidacy Orientation Retreat

  • The July retreat will take place at Fort Harrison Inn, located at 5830 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216

  • Be sure to bring a laptop as you will need it to take the psychological assessment at the retreat

  • Dress is casual

  • Deadline to submit paperwork for the July retreat is June 1.

STEP 7: CERTIFICATION

Prepare for Certification

  • Meet regularly with Candidacy Mentoring Group
  • Continue preparation for certification interview
  • Attend psychological assessment interview with the Ministry Assessment Specialist (MAS) assigned to you by the Administrator of Ministerial Services.

Indiana Candidacy Track documents must be uploaded to eBridge. 

  • Check the Indiana Candidacy Track Checklist for a detailed list and links.
  • Upload Form B – Financial Report
  • Upload Form 104c – Charge Conference Recommendation
  • Upload Written answers to Paragraph 310.2.a found in The Book of Discipline
  • All transcripts to date
  • Other materials as requested

Meet with dCOM for certification interview.
