At least seven area churches from the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood joined together Sunday, September 18, for a blessing and prayer in support of Indianapolis School 43 and the Butler-Tarkington community. Orchestrated by North United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Darren Cushmanwood, the gathering included members and leaders from churches including; St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Common Ground Christian Church, Fairview Presbyterian Church, Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis. At 12 p.m., following their respective worship services, the community churches marched from their parish to IPS 43 (40th Street, Indianapolis) to gather in prayer and solitude, as blessings were proclaimed for the school and surrounding community.
