Faith in Lake County – a chapter of Faith in Indiana, Faith in Lake County

Crown Point, Gary, Hammond and Munster in Lake County.

Faith in Lake County is still in formation. But we already have accomplishments to celebrate:

  • We educated and activated local voters.
  • We built a new coalition of churches.
  • And we developed an ambitious vision to make our county safe, welcoming, and supportive for everyone.

Faith in Elkhart County

Faith in Elkhart County a chapter of Faith in Indiana,

We launched Faith in Elkhart County in September 2016. Since then, this chapter has worked with other community organizations to stop a for-profit immigrant detention facility slated for construction. We also trained parishioners to support immigrant families in crisis and accompany them to detention and deportation.

Faith in Elkhart County a chapter of Faith in Indiana,

Residents of South Bend, Granger, and Mishawaka started Faith in Indiana’s St. Joseph County chapter in February 2018. One of the chapter’s biggest goals is to reduce gun violence and incarceration by 30 percent over the next five years. Here are some of our accomplishments:

  • We ended ICE detention in the county jail.

  • Our grassroots volunteers are working with the county to help people suffering from mental illness or addiction receive the treatment they need instead of jail.

  • We moved the South Bend mayor and Board of Public Safety to adopt a progressive police-discipline matrix.

  • With partners, we protected the health of tenants with a rental safety program.

  • We won a million dollars for the county Health Department South address lead poisoning in children.

  • We helped establish two, full-day, fixed-location COVID test sites on the west side of

Jail Ministry of Elkhart County

With the help of over 500 volunteers, 100 churches and 23 Assistant Chaplains, the mission of the Elkhart County Jail Ministry is to spend time with the people that Jesus spent time with; sharing the freedom found in Christ with people in chains.

The Gospel is shared in the context of relationships. While the Elkhart County Jail Ministry offers over 100 different programs, Bible studies and church services every month for inmates, these programs offer the volunteers and Assistant Chaplains a context in which to build a relationship. Our inmates need to see the love of Christ and not just hear about it.

Volunteer opportunities are numerous. Come, meet God again in the Elkhart County Jail.
