The Indiana Conference Disaster Response ministry is committed to helping prepare, respond, and recover from disasters in Indiana and beyond. In connection with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), we offer trainings and tools to equip you and your church to be a source of hope in the midst of disaster.
Disaster response starts with you – the people in the local community. The INUMC Disaster Ministry wants to help you be prepared to respond as well as know the resources available to your community through UMCOR. Contact your District or Conference Disaster Response Coordinator to learn more about the resources available or to schedule a training in your area.
Trainings offered include:
- Connecting Neighbors – helping congregations prepare their members, church, and community to be prepared before disaster strikes
- Early Response Team – trains teams to respond quickly following a disaster (involving how to tarp or muck out a house, cleaning up debris, when to respond, etc.). Requires background check in order to receive a badge from UMCOR.
- Care Ministry – helps individuals prepare to be a caring presence to survivors following a disaster
- and more!
Looking for ways to support disaster ministry? UMCOR kits are always a great hands on way to be involved, and there are a few pick-up times scheduled at INUMC events throughout the year. Donations can be sent to UMCOR for US Disaster Response (Advance #901670) or to the Indiana Conference Disaster Response Fund which is used for local disaster across Indiana.
