Retirees Staying Connected
In retirement, you continue to be in relationship with the INUMC as a member (for those who are ordained). Your membership extends to voting rights, access to pension and benefits assistance, and connectional input through service on boards and committees. To retain your good standing, The 2016 Book of Discipline ¶357.5 states that all retirees are asked to declare a Charge Conference Membership and file an annual report on all pastoral functions performed throughout the year.
Additionally, according to The 2016 Book of Discipline ¶357.6, should a retiree desire to serve a local UM church in retirement, the appointment comes through a conversation with your Conference Superintendent, with approval from the Bishop.
Those desiring to serve, and/or those currently serving outside the denomination in retirement, are also expected to seek confirmation of that ministry setting with your Conference Superintendent, for Bishop’s approval. In either case, to serve in good standing with our Conference, you need to discuss your service plans with your Conference Superintendent before making a commitment to any local context of ministry/church whether within or outside the UMC.
Please take a moment to complete the Annual Report of the Retired Minister and follow the directions for filing the report AND mailing it to the Conference Center. To access the form, click the button below.
As a member in good standing with our Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, we look forward to supporting you as you continue to serve at God’s direction. If you would like to talk about how God may be calling you serve our Connection in retirement, please contact your Conference Superintendent or Rev. Shannon Stringer, Director of Leadership Development.
Events
From time to time, the Indiana Conference partners with Wespath to put on retirement seminars, during which representatives can answer all of your questions. Seminars are held in March and April. Check out the calendar page to see if any seminars are coming up.
