Wesleyan Service Guild and Scott UMC Church

The Wesleyan Service Guild of the Lexington (M.E.) Conference (which embraced the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio) was organized at the Scott U.M. Church (then located on Martindale Avenue) on May 7, 1921.  For several years after 1947, the Indiana District of the Lexington (M.) Conference also operated a residence for working girls on Martindale Ave.

Two cornerstone are embedded in the present structure.  That of the first building reads: "Scotts M.E. Church, Built 1910, Rebuilt 1923, J. S. Roberts, Pastor."  The second one says: "Scott U.M.C., W. White, Bishop, H. Coleman, Dis. Supt., M. Hitchens, Pastor.  'Where there is no vision the people will perish' 1994"

GPS of the present church building:  39 47 50.72, -86 08 05.99
