ROBERT ELWOOD DUNGY of South Bend, Ind., 77, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Sunday, March 9, 2014. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at Evangel Heights Church, 114 N. Ironwood Drive in South Bend. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14 at the church with the Rev. Dr. Patrick Somers officiating. For those clergy in attendance at the Friday service, a hospitality room will be in the church lounge, Room #1. Please bring your robe, if you’re able. Entombment will follow at Riverview Mausoleum in South Bend. Survivors include: his loving wife Constance of 52 years; daughters, Jocelyn (Anthony) Owens of Virginia Beach, Va.; Angela K. (Charles) Bond of South Bend; son, Stephen (Michelle) Dungy of South Bend; and seven grandchildren. Dungy served at Gary Outreach Ministry, Ambridge UMC in Gary, as an Urban Missioner, First UMC South Bend as an associate, Fairmont UMC, Dean of the Upper Room and director of Church Cultivation in Nashville, Tenn., Sunnycrest UMC in Marion, St. Paul UMC in South Bend, Trinity UMC in Elkhart and Superintendent of the former Columbus District before retiring in 2002.
