GILES HARVEY HOOVER of Green Fork, Ind., 74, a retired local pastor of the West Ohio Conference UMC, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013. Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.24, in Brick Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodney Frieden officiating. A public celebration of Giles” life will be the same day at 1 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 199 S. Perry Street in Hagerstown. Giles served with the US Navy and was a former employee of Marsh. He served as pastor at church camps in Dixon, Ill. and Santa Claus, Ind. as well as pastor of Thurman-Vega Parish UMC in Thurman, Ohio and Sardinia UMC in Sardinia, Ohio. He was a member and trustee of Hagerstown First United Methodist Church. Survivors include children, Doug (Jennifer) Hoover of Modoc and Melissa (Chad) Tatom of Indianapolis; two grandson; one step-grandson; three sisters; his fianc”, Karen Leonard; one sister-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
