CHARLES DANIEL CARROLL, SR. of Punta Gorda, Fla., 86, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference and father-in-law of the Rev. Larry Marhanka, senior pastor of First UMC in Plymouth, Ind. died Tuesday, July 9, 2013. A memorial service will be held in Florida in mid-August. Survivors include his wife, Helen; five children, SueAnn, Linda, Faye, Dan and John; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Following a career with General Motors as head-experimental chemist, he was ordained an Elder in 1980. He served Indiana churches at Greenfield Faith, Greens Fork, McCutchanville, Princeton St. Mark’s and Mt. Pleasant. Upon retirement in December 1991, he and his wife (Dolores, deceased in April of 2008) lived in Port Charlotte, Fla. He attended and served the Tidewater United Methodist Church as pastor-emeritus, where he actively sought financial funding for overseas missions and attended in-country mission endeavors.
