JOHN W. McFARLAND of Greencastle, Ind., 89, retired Local Pastor of the Indiana Conference, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 East Washington Street in Greencastle. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Simpson Street with the Rev. Dr. P.T. Wilson officiating. Survivors include his children, Kathryn (Gary) Witham of Brazil, John W. (Judith) McFarland III of Newark, N.J., Philip E. (Julia)) McFarland of Rockville and N. Angela (Fredrick) Green of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy E. McFarland (May 31, 2012). John served as pastor in United Methodist churches at Carbon, Fillmore, Canaan and Bainbridge. Memorial contributions can be made to the local Habitat for Humanity or Kiwanis.
