DOROTHY J. STREATY CHAPPELL, a former lay delegate to Annual, Jurisdictional and General Conferences, former Dean of the School of Christian Mission and a founding member of the Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR), died Friday, July 27, 2012. She was a devoted lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gholar and Gholar Funeral Home, 2223 Nichol Avenue in Anderson and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 2, at the church. A memorial service will be held at noon, Thursday, Aug. 2, at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 1503 Rev J. T. Menifee Street (formerly Louise Street) in Anderson with the Rev. Sharon White officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Survivors include: her son, Gregory E. (Peggy Smith) Brown, daughter, Sheryl L. Leavell; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church.
