VIOLET RUTH (SMITH) MCMAHAN of Bloomington, Ind., 90, wife of the Rev. Donald F. McMahan, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died at home Sunday, November 20, 2011. Visitation will be at the Allen Funeral Home, 4155 South Old State Road 37 in Bloomington, from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22. A final visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the First United Methodist Church, 219 East 4th Street in Bloomington. A memorial service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. the same day with the Rev. Mark Fenstermacher officiating and the Rev. Charles T. Dupree, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, assisting. Interment will follow the service at the Cresthaven Cemetery in Bedford, Ind. Survivors include: her husband of 72 years, the Rev. Donald F. McMahan; son, the Rev. Larry W. McMahan of Bloomington; daughter, Susan E. Stein; and granddaughter, Jessica Anne Stein. She was an integral and gracious part of her husband’s pastorates in Greene and Monroe Counties, the Indiana towns of Raub, Remington, Crawfordsville and Plainfield, as well as his administrative ministries as the Superintendent for the Greencastle, Lebanon and South Bend Districts of The United Methodist Church, and as a director of two United Methodist retirement homes, Haven Hubbard in South Bend and Asbury Towers in Greencastle.
