GENEVA J. BERGER of Fort Wayne, Ind., 85, wife of the Rev. Dr. Hilbert J. Berger, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, and mother of the Rev. Daniel J. Berger, pastor of First UMC in West Lafayette, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46807. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at First Wayne Street UMC, 300 East Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802 with visitation one hour before the service. The Revs. Greg Enstrom and Jake Fisher will be officiating. She was an accomplished pianist and church organist and taught both instruments for several years. Survivors include: her husband of 67 years, the Rev. Dr. Hilbert J. Berger; son, the Rev. Daniel (Kelly) Berger of Lafayette; daughter, Rebecca (Terry) Zarnik of LaBelle, Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas. Memorials may be made to First Wayne Street UMC; Aldersgate UMC, 2417 Getz Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804; or the Bethune-Cookman College Chorale in Daytona Beach, Fla.
