JOHN ALVA CHEESMAN, 79, of Greenwood, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 17 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin and at the church on Saturday, June 18 from 9:30 a.m. to service time. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Drive in Franklin. The Revs. Todd Outcalt and Andy Kinsey will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Gardens of Memory in Muncie. Survivors include: his wife, Alberta Moist Cheesman; and three sons, John (Karen) Cheesman of Carmel, David (Tammy) Cheesman of Martinsville and Thomas (Mandi) Cheesman of Carmel; four granddaughters Mackenzie, Emma, Katherine and Lydia and two grandsons, Michael and Rex. Cheesman was ordained Elder in 1958. Beginning in 1953, he served Indiana churches at Royerton, Dunkirk, Anderson Colonial, Smith Valley, Martinsville First, Terre Haute Temple, Evansville Central, Franklin Grace and retired in 1997.
