BERT J. REED, 87, retired pastor, evangelist and military chaplain in the Indiana Conference, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. Visitation from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus and one hour prior to service. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 25 at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, 1610 Taylor Road in Columbus, with the Rev. Steve Russell officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with graveside rites performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Survivors include: his wife, Helen G. (Crippen) Reed; daughter, Cathy J. Reed Squires of Savannah, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Jane Reed of Columbus; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ross M. Reed.
