Prayers for the Awakening of the Church
Begin by asking the Lord to give you a clean heart. Confess any known sins to the Lord and ask for forgiveness. Be assured of the promise of 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If the enemy brings up past sin, remind him of this promise and be free! (Psalm 51:1-4; 1 John 1:9)
Ask the Lord to reveal any hidden sin in you that you may confess it and be redeemed not by anger but by God’s great mercy. (Psalm 19:12-13, 103:8-12, and 139:23-24, Jeremiah 10:24, 17:9-10; Hebrews 4:16)
Confess the sins of apathy and idolatry in the Church. Ask the Lord to humble us to pray and seek forgiveness, and for help to turn from our wicked ways. (Revelation 3:15-22)
Seek God in intercession on behalf of the sins of church leadership. Ask God to forgive them for any sin that may have driven away the Lord’s presence and you also speak forgiveness for them.
Ask the Lord to help you wait patiently until you receive a fresh vision for who God is and what God wants to do in your church. If it is physically possible, ask the Lord if you should fast and pray on behalf of you and your church and its leadership. (Psalm 37:7, 46:10
Ask God to unify the hearts of the leadership, both clergy and laity in your church. Seek out others in your church with whom you might pray for this corporate vision.
Humbly invite God’s Presence back into your church. Tell the Lord that like Moses, you don’t want to go anywhere without Yahweh’s presence. Ask the Lord to take you to the place where God’s glory dwells so that others will know that you have found God’s favor. (Exodus 33:12-23)
Ask the Lord to restore the Church to be the Tent of Meeting as it was in the day of Moses, and the Temple as it was in the day of Solomon. Invite God’s glorious Presence to dwell there always. (Exodus 33:7-11; 2 Chronicles 7:1-3)
Pray that our hearts would once again turn to the Lord, our First Love. (Revelation 2:4-5)
Ask God to circumcise our hearts, causing us to recognize the Lord as our God, the Lord alone. Beseech God that you might learn to love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9, 14-18; Romans 2:29, 4:11; Ezekiel 11:19, 36:25-27)
