Day Four, Saturday May 23, 2015
“Mentally Prepare for the Spiritual Journey.”
When do I have time to mentally prepare for Annual Conference? The “to do list” on my desk is long. What will await me on my return? I can’t afford time to be away from my congregation or my work community. They need me! What about my home and family?
Well, my oh my, if you feel this stressed, then you desperately need to be rejuvenated at Annual Conference.
“Though I am always in haste, I am never in a hurry.”
– John Wesley, John Wesley's Sermons: An Anthology
Starting today, take a few minutes each day to reflect on what you want to achieve at Annual Conference. Write your Conference Goals, then pray about each one when the thought crosses your mind. Reflect on your stories which display Christ working in your life. What new revelations are revealed to you?
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him,
rooted and built up in him and established in the faith,
just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human
tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ.
– Colossians 2:6-8 NRSV
What questions do you have for people and committees? Pray for divine appointments and connections. Ask for favor for complicated situations. Build bridges of relationships that have been strained and new bridges of opportunities.
Do you need to forgive someone before you see him or her at Annual Conference? Break the chains of unforgiveness that you may carry with you. Release the person to the Holy Spirit for divine restitution. Do you need to forgive God for miscommunication or disappointments? Do you believe God has your back? Do you need to forgive yourself for not accomplishing the goals you set last year, or the dreams which weren’t achieved, or your sins you committed?
Prepare to open your ears, your heart, and mind to accept and implement creative projects in your church and community. Pray for your community to accept innovative projects.
Merciful Heavenly Father, I come before your throne to calm my mind, body, and soul. Refresh me with wisdom, love, peace, joy, and hope to lead and comfort. Please forgive me of missed opportunities, sins, and short-falls. Holy Spirit, restore and rejuvenate me to be empowered to serve you more effectively. Please grant all participants safe travel to and from the Conference. I ask this prayer in the name of Jesus who hears every prayer and guides my spiritual journey. Amen.
