Our 2014 Session of the Indiana Conference was a great event, and it included some very special moments. The highlight for me was the response of so many people and congregations to the invitation for "100 New Points of Light." In fact, more than 300 people representing 201 congregations came forward – so many that I worried a little about whether our stage would hold everyone!

What happens now? Those who came forward were led into a separate room where they received packets of information, including a voucher to request their $500 seed money for their new ministry efforts. Each congregation also will be assigned an adviser to help them develop their plans, and it is important for all of us to hold them in prayer. In fact that is the role of those churches who did NOT come forward – they are also invited to be involved in these New Points of Light by offering prayers and support for them.

We will also need to raise some more funds, because we have currently set aside $50,000 from the Discontinued Church fund for each of these new projects to receive $500 of seed money. That is a very appropriate use of the legacy funds from congregations which completed their ministry, but we had only anticipated needing $500 each for 100 churches – and now we need $500 for 201 churches. That is a good problem, and I am sure we will find the funds. In fact two different persons came to me and offered $1,000 each to help support these New Points of Light.

So that we can all begin praying for these congregations, here is the list of congregations who came forward and answered the call to be one of those New Points of Light. You can notice that they are churches all of sizes from all over the state of Indiana, so please hold them in prayer and encourage them to move forward:
