Gambling Recovery Ministries (GRM), is an Indiana Conference Advance Special with the mission to extend life-saving Christian outreach to persons directly and indirectly impacted by the devastations of pathological gambling and to spread the good news of hope, help, recovery, and renewal.

GRM’s outreach includes the entire State of Indiana and points beyond. Gambling Recovery Ministries is the only wide scale outreach to problem gamblers and their loved ones in the country within The United Methodist Church.

As a non-profit ministry, GRM seeks to partner with United Methodist congregations and individuals to:

• provide supportive consultations to individuals, including spiritual support and sharing of referral information on treatment and recovery programs
• impart a wide variety of educational materials about problem gambling to individuals seeking help, churches, and mental health professionals
• provide educational programs for church and community groups, clergy training sessions and professional CEU events about problem gambling and recovery

A Best-Practice Model Developed and Implemented

In collaboration with mental health professionals and recovery support groups, GRM has developed a “circle of care” best-practice model, for persons affected by gambling addiction in southeastern Indiana. Within this continuum of care, the individual’s recovery – bio/psycho/socio/spiritual – is addressed. As a result of this model, two GA and Gam-Anon Meetings provide weekly group support, one therapist has attained national certification and additional accreditation, three other counselors have taken the State of Indiana training for problem gambling treatment, and public awareness of gambling addiction and recovery issues has increased. Through extended networking, GRM will share this model with other communities, statewide.

Gambling Recovery Ministries Needs Your Support

There is always a demand for the educational materials that GRM provides free to many individuals and groups. Persons who come for help are both gamblers seeking recovery and their loved ones, devastated by the impacts of gambling addiction within their families. Commonly, we hear, “I have never seen information on problem gambling until I came to you!”

GRM provides plentiful, quality materials, tailor-made for training sessions with clergy, mental health professionals, social workers, and interested citizens. Then too, GRM receives requests for information statewide and from across the nation. Postage is always an expected expense!
