Rejuvenate Extravagant Generosity Workshop Schedule

Rejuvenate Extravagant Generosity Workshop Schedule

Friday: Who Should Attend & The Content

On Friday, clergy and their spouses are invited to attend: “An Introduction to Grateful Living & Generous Giving for Clergy & their Spouses.”

Friday’s Content

Pastors are the primary leaders to help cultivate the joy of extravagant generosity in congregations. Yet, personal financial issues often negatively impact pastors’ ability to be steward leaders. These sessions will invite clergy and their spouses to reflect on the intersection between faith and money.  In addition, they will provide valuable education related to clergy tax law and basic estate planning.  A personal spending plan as a fundamental tool that enables individuals to control money, rather than be controlled by it, will be introduced.  Each workshop is customized based on the participants’ questions and interests.

Included content:

  • Current personal financial climate
  • An introduction to Christian stewardship
  • The IUPUI Center on Philanthropy’s findings on clergy and money
  • Clergy tax law
  • Tips on personal budget planning
  • Primary estate planning documents

Saturday: Who Should Attend & The Content

On Saturday, clergy and their church’s lay team members (lay member, lay leader, ad council chairperson, finance committee chairperson, staff-parish chairperson and treasurer) are invited to attend: Encouraging the Joy of Extravagant Generosity: A Call to Financial Discipleship.”

Saturday’s Content

Church leaders are facing growing financial challenges as the sluggish economy impacts church operational costs as well as individual personal expenses. The negative cycle of scarcity pervades the church culture and leads to a further decline in giving. Yet, all that we have in life is a generous gift from God. Church leaders can greatly influence the understanding of money and stewardship in the life of a congregation. Generous giving is a spiritual gift that requires cultivation and growth, like any aspect of one’s Christian formation.

During these sessions, participants will:

  • Gain a deeper theological understanding of stewardship
  • Examine the current socio-economic trends impacting charitable giving
  • Learn how to move from a negative cycle of scarcity to a positive cycle of abundance
  • Discover several best practices for effective year-round stewardship
