The Rev. Shannon Stringer, Director of Leadership Development, is pleased to announce that Robert C. Muhlbaier, III (R.C.) will serve as the Associate Director of Leadership Development – Laity effective October 29, 2018.

Muhlbaier’s primary responsibilities will be to support the Board of Laity and Lay Servant Ministry, while simultaneously providing development resources for local church lay leaders, as well as working collaboratively with the Director of Leadership Development to realize the vision of Leadership Development and fulfill the mission of the Indiana Conference.

Muhlbaier holds a Master of Arts in Teacher Leader from Campbellsville University and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Asbury University. He believes the vital role of the laity is to, “provide oversight and execute the mission and ministry of the Church.” He further shares that his calling is to contribute to the work of laypersons within The United Methodist Church in realizing the Kingdom of God through facilitating a passion for the story and mission of Christ.

“R.C. is a wonderful addition to our Leadership Development team. Not only because of his strong articulation, understanding, and support of laity call and response through Christ, but also because his experience as an educator will help Indiana move forward in our commitment to developing lay leadership,” Rev. Shannon Stringer, Director of Leadership Development, remarked.

He is a lifelong member of The United Methodist Church and the spouse of Rev. Kathryn (Kate) Muhlbaier serving as Senior Pastor of Charlestown United Methodist Church. During his time serving on the Board of Laity as the District Director of Lay Servant Ministry for the South District, Muhlbaier built relationships with laypersons and facilitated training for those seeking to serve in their local congregations and communities. He plans to build upon his early learnings and skills in communication, action research, and peer mentoring/training in this role as we work together to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
