INDIANAPOLIS – The Shera Farm Fund is a bequest from Myrtie Shera for the benefit of retired clergy families and foreign missions connected with the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church. Each year the Indiana Conference Board of Trustees makes a determination of recipients based upon the directions of the bequest.

According to Brent Williams, director of Indiana Conference Administrative Services, the earnings for 2013 were rather significant and the conference trustees have taken the following actions on distributing the funds including:

  • $49,922 or 20 percent be reinvested in the corpus of the fund,
  • $50,000 be given to the Indiana Conference Compassion Fund to assist retired clergy and spouses with their conference Medicare Supplement premium,
  • $49,688 be given to the Indiana Conference Mission and Social Advocacy Committee for further distribution, and
  • $100,000 be given to the Indiana Conference Africa University Campaign to help endow the faculty position in agriculture and natural resources.
