Even as Jan and I decided to tithe our $12,600 income, we were putting 3 percent of that income into UMPIP for retirement. Within 3-4 years, we saw the potential in saving for the future, so began increasing the percentage invested to 5 percent, then 6 percent, then 7 percent, and ultimately 8 percent.
The first $600 we contributed to UMPIP has multiplied to over $10,500 today! It is easy for us to track, because after the first 1½ years, we switched from after-tax to before-tax investing.
Anytime I log on to my account at gbophb.org, I can see what that $617.50 after-tax account is worth today!
The moral of this story is: Tithe first and prepare for the future!
