INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Bishop Mike Coyner announced Jan. 9 that the Most Reverend Joseph W. Tobin, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will be the speaker at the 2014 Indiana United Methodist Annual Conference Session Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning, May 31, at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis. Coyner said Archbishop Tobin would speak about Christian unity.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin to his current position in October 2012 as the sixth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Before that he was the Archbishop Secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. Archbishop Tobin, 61, succeeded Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein, who was granted early retirement.

Archbishop Tobin, a Redemptorist priest, is a native of Detroit. He has served as a parish priest in the inner cities of Detroit and Chicago. He also served as General Consultor of the Redemptorist congregation from 1991 to 1997 and as its Superior General from 1997 to 2009. He was installed as Archbishop of Indianapolis on Dec. 3, 2012.

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis serves nearly 228,000 Catholics in 147 parishes in 39 counties in central and southern Indiana.
