Still Waters Adult Day Center opened in February, 2011 as a ministry of Castleton United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. The Center’s creation was largely the vision of Deb McCloud, a church member whose elderly father used Adult Day Services at a United Methodist Church in Elkhart, Ind. She spent many hours researching adult day services as a model of care and visiting other centers.

The development period, from idea to the center’s opening, took two years. During this time, McCloud recruited a nucleus of church members with an interest in outreach ministries and formed an advisory board, raised approximately $20,000 in seed money and convinced church leadership to support the new ministry by designating and remodeling approximately 3,000 sq. ft. of space in the church’s Ministries Center building.

Following a formal search process, Still Waters named Kathy Pellman as Executive Director in June 2010. She developed a marketing plan, operating policies and provided assistance with the build-out phase, prior to the Center’s opening.

At the time of its opening, Still Waters had two guests who attended two days-per-week. By the end of 2011, enrollment had reached nine guests, and operation increased to five days.

During 2012, the center’s census continued to grow. Additional space was remodeled for a beauty shop, massage room and storage. Many new activities were added, including a Caregiver Support Group and a monthly chapel service. A beautician and a massage therapist provide services on a weekly basis.

In April 2013, the center reached an average daily census of 15 guests, with 27 guests enrolled. Still Waters now has 30 enrolled guests and a waiting list. Additional services include podiatrist care, art, music, yoga classes and a drum circle. Plans are underway to add office space and a new entrance, allowing the center to comfortably house a maximum of 20 guests-per-day.

Still Waters is certified to provide adult day services by the State of Indiana, Family and Social Services Administration and by CICOA, the Area 8 Agency on Aging.
