Our office oversees the UMYL Scholarship Program, a “working scholarship” that rewards the involvement and leadership of UMC students while in high school, and encourages and involves them in leadership development in our Christian campus ministry while at UIndy. Every year, up to 16 students are a part of this cohort, which brings them together for service, fellowship and formation.
Mackenzie Cain, senior psychology major from Seymour First UMC (Seymour, Ind.):
“Being a part of the United Methodist Youth Leader Scholar program has allowed me to build a community away from my church family. Through regular worship on campus, in the community and in various community service opportunities alongside other Methodist students, I have built a stronger foundation within the United Methodist Church.”
Rachel Junard, freshman international relations major from Hillcrest UMC (Brentwood, Tenn.):
“Being a UMYL Scholar has not only made my faith stronger in college, but it has connected me to others who strive to live a Christian lifestyle like mine. As UMYL scholars, we’ve helped at soup kitchens and gone to church to worship together. It’s an honor to be a UMYL Scholar, and I thank God for it every day.”
