INDIANAPOLIS – Jack Haefling, a member of North UMC and Central District Disaster Response coordinator, helped collect 283 cleanup bucket kits at the Marion County Fairgrounds since Thanksgiving.
This collection point ceased operation on Dec. 12. These kits were sent to UMCOR outlets in New Jersey to help Super-Storm Sandy survivors in their clean up and recovery efforts or replenish supplies in UMCOR warehouses, like the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Ill.
According to Haefling, major donors and amounts donated to the collection included: North Webster (55), Fort Wayne (65), New Albany (55) and St. Luke’s Indianapolis (50). The remainder of the 283 kits came from numerous smaller congregations, including five from the Indiana Conference Center staff. At $55-per-bucket, this comes to a total donation of $15,565 of cleaning supplies.
Haefling thanks all who participated in this collection making a difference in survivor’s lives.
