The Greater New Jersey Annual Conference is ready to receive trained ERTs (early response teams) to help with disaster relief in response to Super Storm Sandy.
Groups that go to New Jersey must be trained and must be self-sustaining. Churches will provide housing but teams must provide their own meals and be ready for flexible conditions, according to Greg Forrester, UMVIM NEJ coordinator. He emphasized that only trained self-starters should respond as this will be a door-to-door cleanup in some of the areas.
Interested teams should send email to DisasterResponse@gnjumc.org for locations and confirmed dates. They will be contacted by a conference disaster team representative. Please list your name and contact information, the name of your church and annual conference, team size and dates your team is available to respond.
Meanwhile, the Greater New Jersey Conference continues to collect supplies for cleanup buckets and health kits. Forrester said they have already distributed thousands and will need thousands more.
Gifts to UMCOR U.S. Disaster Response, Hurricanes 2012, Advance #3021787, will help UMCOR to help storm survivors over the long term of their recovery.
