Recording artist Donna Howell of Zionsville plans to give 100 percent of the sales of her Christmas CD “Christmas L.I.F.T.” to Mission Guatemala.
During the past few months, Howell had the opportunity to record this unique Christmas CD. Due to a generous donor, who covered the production cost, she is able to give 100 percent of the sales to Mission Guatemala, an Advance mission of both the Indiana Conference and United Methodist Global Ministries, based in New York City.
She told Together, “Our goal is to raise $30,000 for Mission Guatemala – that’s roughly 3,000 CDs.”
On the Christmas CD website (www.liftlives.com), Howell writes, “The pastor at our church (who also happens to be my husband) reminds us every week that we are to LIFT the lives of others through Love, Inspiration, Faith and Transformation. After much soul searching, I came to the conclusion that God has given me a gift that I should use to LIFT others, so I set out to find ‘others’ who needed help.”
Donna is the wife of the Rev. Glenn Howell, senior pastor of Zionsville United Methodist Church.
She goes on to explain in her words the work of Indiana pastor, now missionary, Tom Heaton, who followed his passion of helping the impoverished people of Guatemala.
“I knew that Tom had been able to do amazing things in Guatemala in a very short period of time, and that our church had sent two mission teams to Guatemala and was planning to send another. I logged onto the Mission Guatemala website (www.missionguatemala.com) to learn more and saw the words ‘Do all the good you can,’ based on John Wesley’s teaching. It was then I decided my CD would LIFT the lives of the people of San Andres Semetabaj, Guatemala, and that I would ‘Do all the good I can,’” Howell writes.
Her sound engineer for the project was Andy Symons, who had access to some of the best musicians around.
She said, “It was a little overwhelming and humbling to share the studio with musicians who had played with the likes of John Mellancamp, Johnny Cash, Ray Boltz, Selah, Kenney Chesney, Sheryl Crow, Eddie Money, Vince Gill, Michael Feinstein and many others.”
The title of the CD became the same word to inspire its creation – LIFT.
Howell hopes the CD will lift its listeners this Christmas.
“May you feel the Love of Christmas, be Inspired to LIFT someone this season, and have the Faith that, together, we can Transform the world,” she said.
