PERU, Ind. – Boy Scouts of America Troop 501 celebrated 100 years of Scouting this past Sunday with a commemorative plaque presented by Main Street United Methodist Church in Peru.

The church’s deacons made the presentation commemorating the 100th anniversary of the original chartering of Troop 1 with Main Street church.

The unit’s designation has changed, from Troop 1 to Troop 501, based on some redistricting, as has the church’s name from Methodist Episcopal to Methodist to United Methodist.

The troop has not been continuously chartered for the full 100 years due to a break in the late 1980s, however, the original charter was granted in April 1911 and has always been with the Main Street Church.
