NEW ORLEANS, La. – The General Secretaries Table, a group composed of the top executives of The United Methodist Church’s 13 general agencies, unanimously elected Gilbert C. Hanke to serve as the group’s convener.

Hanke, the top executive of the denomination’s commission on United Methodist Men, will serve in this additional role through the end of the 2009-2012 quadrennium. He was elected during the group’s Feb. 15-16 meeting in New Orleans.

He succeeds Neil M. Alexander, president and publisher of The United Methodist Publishing House, who held the post for four years and had earlier announced his intention to step aside in light of other church-wide responsibilities.
