I am Melissa Zimmerman and in my first year of seminary at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Last spring, I graduated from United Methodist-related DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. The campus ministry at DePauw through the Office of Spiritual Life and the chaplain, has proven to be an invaluable tool for my seminary preparation.

Through Bible study, meals with others called into ministry, discussions with the chaplain and other opportunities, I grew in my understanding of what it means to be a pastor and how to take care of myself spiritually. I learned how to interact with others my age who were also called to ministry, and I learned to defend what I believe while listening to the differences in my friends. All these are skills that I have seen some of my classmates in seminary struggle to master.

I can only be grateful that I was given the chance to begin learning during my time at DePauw. Campus ministry made a difference in my life.
