NASHVILLE, Tenn. (GBHEM) – The Rev. Jerome King Del Pino, general secretary of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, recently announced the Rev. Meg Lassiat of the Indiana Conference will be assuming a new role at the GBHEM as director of clergy development and conference relations in the Division of Ordained Ministry.
This position will be vacated in January 2011 by the Rev. Sharon Rubey, who announced in June her intent to retire effective Dec. 31.
For the past five years, Lassiat has served as director of student ministries, vocation and enlistment, which is a cross-divisional appointment. Effective Jan.1, she will assume her new role within the Division of Ordained Ministry, reporting to the interim associate general secretary, the Rev. Patricia Barrett.
In the announcement, Del Pino said, “Throughout Meg’s tenure, she has worked closely with the Enlistment and Candidacy Team and brings unique experiences and knowledge to this position that will assist her in effectively managing and advancing the candidacy process and relationships with annual conferences, Boards of Ordained Ministry, the BOM Staff Network, etc.
“Additionally, her knowledge and experience with young adult ministry can bring a valuable perspective to the role of candidacy and conference relations as the denomination and the GBHEM continue to focus on finding new ways to improve the candidacy and mentoring process for all candidates, particularly young adults.”
The Rev. Patricia Barrett stated, “I am delighted that Meg has been named to serve in this capacity. We anticipate a seamless transition and I look forward to our continued work together. Her energy, commitment and skills will serve the church well.”
Laissiat received a B.A. degree from the University of North Florida and a M.Div. from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. She is an ordained deacon and a clergy member of the Indiana Annual Conference.
