The United Methodist Jurisdictional Rx Consultation is set for May 7-9, 2010 at Walnut Hills UMC in Urbandale, Iowa, just west of Des Moines.

The Rev. Gesner Paul, president of the Eglise Methodiste d’Haiti will be one of the guests. He will be available all day Friday, May 7, during a pre-conference session on Haiti.

The Friday evening plenary speaker is the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan, Iowa Conference Assistant to the Bishop for Connectional Ministries.

Other guests include: Dr. Roger Boe, UMVIM medical team specialist; Robert Rabb, coordinator for UMVIM teams into Colombia; Patricia Magyar, executive secretary for UMCOR-Health, who will hold a special two-hour workshop for Parish Nurses; Deaconness Joanne Reich, GBGM Child Protection and Community Assistance Officer talking about Safe Sanctuaries, and Nancy Eubanks, Individual Volunteer consultant for GBGM.

The overall theme is Community Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC) – How one can take some teaching tools and techniques with into a medical mission field and leave them for the empowerment of the local leaders. Workshops and talks on topics for UMVIM teams include incorporating spiritual formation into team dynamics; learning about diseases of poverty; ideas for CBPHC; packing tips; medical professionals as Individual Volunteers; how solar ovens work as self-help tools; medical teams gear up to serve in Colombia, Nigeria, Haiti and elsewhere. Safe Sanctuary concerns and many other opportunities will be shared.
