If it's the first Saturday in October, it's the day of Wesley Manor's signature event, the annual Apple Festival. Sponsored in great part by the Friends of the Manor - a group of Volunteers from the general community to provide services and support to Manor residents - the Apple Festival generates awareness and funding for special projects. Funds raised throughout the years have been directed to equip the Health Center, the beautification of the Manor's grounds and activity events, to name a few.

The festival originated two decades ago and was so named for a portion of Wesley Manor's notable areas on their grounds - the apple orchard. Everything centers around the theme of the event - Apple Bingo (win at bingo and received an apple dessert item), apple seed-spitting contest, the Apple Caf‚ known for great entertainment and, oh yes, delectable baked apples, an apple cider press for tasty liquid refreshment, and a wonderful lunch of ham-and-beans or vegetable soup with sides and apple pie for dessert of course. There are crafts for sale, a kid's activity area and a very popular garage sale. Name your price and take it home.

This year marks the 17th anniversary for this fun, family gathering and will be held on October 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participation by Manor staff, residents and volunteers is the secret to its success each year and everyone pitches in by peeling bushels of apples, baking apple goodies, creating craft items and donating items for the garage sale.

Wherever you live, the Manor promises it's worth the trip to Wesley Manor's Apple Festival to enjoy the crisp autumn air and join in this traditional event.
