CHARLES F. BOWMAN, 89, of Holland, Mich., formerly of Valparaiso, Ind., died April 8, 2009 in Holland. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso. Bowman formed a partnership with O.C. Redenbacher and purchased George E. Chester and Son Hybrid Seed Corn Company of Boone Grove, which later became Chester, Inc. Together Bowman and Redenbacher developed the Redbow and Orville Redenbacher brands of popcorn. Survivors include: wife Mary E. Mohler; daughters: Judy Anthrop of Douglas, Mich., June Bowman of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Connie Bowman of Valparaiso; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons, Charlie and Garrison. A memorial service was held April 14 at First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso. Entombment followed in the mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. ESTHER COMPTON, mother of the Rev. Wade Compton, pastor of the Nashville (Ind.) UMC (former SIC), died May 2, 2009. A memorial service will be held later this month. SUE COPELAND, spouse of the Rev. Glenn Copeland, retired Elder (former NIC), died May 9, 2009. A memorial service was held May 14 in Angola, Ind. LURA LORRAINE GRAY, 93, of Madison, Ind., wife of the late Rev. Harold E. Gray, a UM minister in the Wisconsin Conference, died on March 4, 2009. She was a native Jefferson County, Ind. and A memorial service was held on March 7, at the North UMC in Madison with interment following in the Brooksburg Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Gray; and son, Harvey D. Gray.
ELMA L. HEADY, widow of the late Rev. James T. Heady, Elder (former SIC), who last served at Evansville Trinity UMC, and daughter of the late Rev. Harold and Frances Claycamp, died April 22, 2009. A memorial was held on April 25 with burial at Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville.
