Indiana United Methodists continue their lead in the North Central Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church when it comes to Volunteers-in-Mission, according to recently released figures. Overall this, nine-state jurisdiction, which includes Indiana, saw a dramatic 37 percent increase in volunteers last year over figures from the previous year. This is mainly due to the number of volunteers in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa, who volunteered for flood relief and recovery. State Volunteer in Mission coordinators reported more than 2,700 volunteers contributed greatly to flood recovery efforts, which are ongoing.

Out of 17,000 volunteers for these north central states, Indiana took the lead with nearly 9,000 volunteers. Of all the volunteers in the jurisdiction, Indiana contributed 52 percent of them. Iowa came in second with two thousand volunteers. – UM CIM NCJ
