INDIANAPOLIS - Daniel Evans, CEO of Clarian Health, is scheduled to be the featured morning speaker at the Indiana United Methodist Historical Society's 14th Annual Meeting. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at Methodist Hospital, 1515 North Senate Boulevard. In the afternoon, Dick Stowe will share a presentation on Indiana's Civil War Bishops Matthew Simpson and Edward Ames.
Evans will address the connection between The United Methodist Church and Methodist Hospital as well as his own family's multi-generational connection with the institution. Surplus funds, of about $4,750, from the International Epworth League Convention, 1899, were given as seed money for a Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. The original hospital building was dedicated in 1909.
R.A. Stowe, a retired professor of Ball State University and member of the Society's executive committee, will also give a presentation on "Indiana 'Civil War' Bishops: Simpson and Ames." Simpson, known for his eulogy of Abraham Lincoln, and Ames took different approaches to the national crisis of the 1860s.
