LAWRENCE COOPER, retired minister (SIC), died May 7, 2007. A memorial service was held May 10 at Eden United Methodist Church in Greenfield, Ind., with burial in Eden Cemetery. Survivors include: wife, Nellie Cooper, 38 W 700 N, Fortville, IN 46040; one son Stephen Cooper, and three grandchildren.
HARRY HAINES, 89, a United Methodist clergyperson and director of the United Methodist Committee on Relief from 1966 to 1983, died March 29, 2007. He suffered a heart attack in Eugene, Ore., where he and his wife, Loma, lived in retirement. Haines, a native of New Zealand, was a missionary in China in the 1940s and later in Malaysia. He then worked in the division of interchurch aid, refugees and world service of the World Council of Churches. At UMCOR, he was an advocate for service to those in need and for education about the impact of poverty and political oppression on millions of people.
Ralph Kirkwood, father of the Rev. Warren Kirkwood (Mishawaka Albright UMC-NIC), died April 24, 2007. The Rev. THELMA LEWIS, mother of Ellen Rhoades, former United Methodist Women's president of the North Indiana Conference, died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007 at Lincoln, Neb. Survivors include: two sons; two daughters; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. A memorial service was held April 14 in Lincoln. A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery in Eaton, Ind.
MARTHA McCLINTOCK, widow of the late Rev. William McClintock (NIC), died March 29, 2007. A memorial service was held April 3 at the Village at Skyline, Village Chapel, Colorado Springs, Colo. LEE NEUERMAN, widow of the late Rev. Arthur Neuerman (SIC), died April 17, 2007. LOIS E. WALKER, mother of the Rev. Ron Walker, pastor of Life Gate UMC in Columbus, Ind., died March 30, 2007. A memorial service was held at East Columbus UMC on April 2.
