U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker began serving May 5 as president of the Federal Judges Association, a non-profit volunteer group made up of 900 Article III judges from the nation's circuits. The group, founded in 1982, focuses on judicial independence and helping preserve the principals of the federal judiciary. Barker has been active in the organization for about a decade.
A major issue she plans to address is the judiciary's salary and benefits that is a key component in ensuring independence, Judge Barker said.
Judge Barker is a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, 30 miles south of downtown Indianapolis. She also served on the Imagine Indiana Discernment Team.
