Nappanee and surrounding communities were hit by a category 5 tornado on Oct. 18. The outpouring of volunteers to provide clean-up assistance has been overwhelming.
The next phase will be rebuilding. Most of the survivors of this storm have insurance to pay for repairs, but there remains a number of residences that are under-insured. It is this group of families we, United Methodists, and the Faith Based Community are here to serve. The North Indiana Conference Disaster Response team asks you and your church to prayerfully consider helping with the financial needs of this community of under-insured survivors.
In response to the Nappanee tornado relief appeal, the Louisiana Conference sent Bishop Mike Coyner a check for $3,000, with a letter saying, "We have read of the issues in ministry caused to the area surrounding Nappanee UMC by the recent tornados. Louisiana understands the pain of such a disaster in physical, emotional and spiritual concerns to those affected. The Church has a unique opportunity to share our faith as we minister to the needs of our sisters and brothers."
Please help with this recovery. A fund has been established. Make checks payable to: Nappanee Tornado Victims Assistance and send your check to: Nappanee Tornado Victims Assistance, P.O. Box 29, Nappanee, IN 46550. Checks also may be made payable to the Nappanee UMC with memo for Storm Relief. UMCOR has given a grant to the North Indiana Conference that will be distributed through the Nappanee UMC.
