INDIANAPOLIS – Bishop Michael J. Coyner of the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church announces the appointment of the Rev. Steven P. Clouse of Lafayette, Ind., as the Director of Church Development beginning July 1, 2015, upon the appointment of the Rev. David K. Neckers as Superintendent of the Northeast District. Clouse has served as the Senior Associate Director of Church Development since 2013, and his appointment as the new Director of Church Development continues the continuity in this ministry area.

“I am very pleased that Steve will serve as the new Director of Church Development, having worked closely with him I have seen his keen insight, his understanding of church dynamics and his ability to coach and lead churches and pastors,” said Coyner.

As the Director of Church Development, Clouse will continue to build upon the two-fold vision to revitalize existing congregations and to plant new faith communities. Clouse is passionate about continuing and building upon the process of the Fruitful Congregations Journey (FCJ) that sets in motion churches reaching their full potential of being vital and vibrant faith communities in their local settings. He will also continue the work with Bishop Coyner, the Superintendents and Conference Directors to discover, develop and deploy fruitful leaders, as well as strategic churches willing to connect with new people and launch new faith communities across our Hoosier state.

“I am excited and honored for the opportunity to join the Directors Team and continue serving the Indiana Conference, as well as its congregations and leaders in this new role. And it has been my privilege to be a part of our outstanding Church Development Team for the last five years,” said Clouse.

“Steve will continue to carry on the fine work developed by David Neckers, and this smooth transition is imperative as we continue to seek a growing number of vital congregations supporting the mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world,” stated Coyner.

Clouse continued, “I am also indebted to Dave Neckers for his leadership, our Conference Church Development Committee, as well as my colleagues on the Church Development staff for their support and collaboration. I believe that by continuing this spirit of collaboration, we can assist our congregations, so that we may all engage our communities for Jesus Christ and become ‘Mission Indiana’.”

Clouse is a native of Elkhart, Ind. Clouse and his wife, Becky, live in Lafayette, Ind. Becky currently serves as the Director of Worship Arts at Delphi United Methodist Church. The couple has two teenage daughters: Erin, 18, and Emmalyn, 16.
