INDIANAPOLIS – Bishop Michael J. Coyner of the Indiana Conference is pleased announce the appointment of the Rev. Gary Elsten to serve as an Associate District Superintendent in the North Central District, effective October 1, 2014.

As a life-long United Methodist, Gary comes to the District with a diverse background in church leadership, as well as business having spent the first 20 years of his career with General Motors. More recently, Rev. Elsten has served as the pastor of several charges throughout Indiana and is currently serving Frankton First.

Gary received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, Master of Science in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University, as well as Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Jan, have two grown children, Angela (Kevin) Myers who is expecting her first child and lives in Madison, Wisc.; and Andy (Mindie) who has a 5-month-old daughter, Skylar, and lives in Lafayette, Ind.

“Gary’s strengths in the areas of strategic planning, vision casting, and problem solving will asset to the laity and clergy of the District,” said Rev. Michelle Cobb, North Central Superintendent.
