A writer in the July/August issue of Together claims that The United Methodist Church is “far north” of the Bible, and refers to “anti-Bible vocalists.” But it is the Bible that tells us to love our enemies and work for peace; to be suspicious of the rich and powerful and sympathetic to the poor and powerless; to be kind to the alien and stranger; and to care for the environment as God’s creation. It is precisely because the United Methodist articulates the teachings of the Bible that makes me proud to be a United Methodist.
