INDIANAPOLIS – Bishop Michael J. Coyner and the Rev. Dr. Aleze Fulbright, director of leadership development, are pleased to announce the nomination and election of the Rev. Russ Able to serve as the chairperson of the Indiana Conference Board of Ordained Ministry (BoOM) for the 2016-2020 quadrennium.
“As we make plans for transitions in the Indiana Conference, it is good that our Board of Ordained Ministry is planning for its leadership,” said Coyner.
Coyner continued, “Steve Ailes has done a great job of serving as the chairperson of BoOM – succeeding Anne Rosebrock, who had to step aside for personal reasons.”
Fulbright shared, “The words of John Quincy Adams as a context for fruitful and exceptional leadership to affirm Rev. Russ Abel, ‘If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.’ I am inspired and looking forward to Rev. Abel's leadership to lead the Board of Ordained Ministry into the new quadrennium.”
She continued, “The Board has been served well by Steve Ailes over the last few years as chairperson, but also the numerous years as a board member. We are greatly blessed and are appreciative of his faithful service and commitment to ensure that the board is fruitful and faithful to its works.”
Bishop Coyner also noted, “Now as Steve prepares to retire off the board as of next annual conference, it is good to know that Russ Abel will be preparing to take his place and to provide for continuity of faithful leadership. I appreciate Steve and Russ working together on this succession plan for the good of the board and of our Indiana Conference.”
Abel is the senior pastor of Fort Wayne St. Joseph UMC and is a delegate to the 2016 General and Jurisdictional Conferences. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Michelle, have two children: Emma and Samuel.
