Letter from the Conference Council on Finance and Administration
Dear Pastors & Finance Chairs;
The Conference Committee on Finance & Administration (CF&A) annually does a detailed review of the Indiana Conference Budget, probably not unlike what most of you in the Conference are doing. I want to thank all of our congregations for your faithful support of your Annual Conference and Denomination!
During Annual Conference in May, CF&A requested and it was adopted that each church in Indiana seek to increase their tithe giving by ½ of 1% beyond their original plan for tithing. If every church in Indiana would do this in 2015 and 2016, the result would allow the Indiana Conference to fund our entire budget including paying our full apportionment to the General Church. There are many great stories of ministry to be told through our General Church apportionments. This would be a perfect time for you to take the opportunity to share with your congregation how some of the funding they provide through their Annual Conference tithe changes lives all around the world! There are many resources to assist you in telling this story at umcgiving.org.
At this time The Indiana Conference is projecting a significant shortfall in giving and unfortunately the primary item that will not be funded is our General Church apportionment. That means that the worldwide mission program of the greater church will suffer. By design when every church in Indiana combines their resources, greater mission programs can be achieved worldwide. This is truly the strength of the connectional system. As a result of our lack of giving, we will have failed as a Conference in fully contributing to our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Keep in mind that for every dollar we give to our Conference almost $ .50 of that dollar goes directly to worldwide mission efforts.
In reaching the goal of fully funding our General Conference apportionment, we will honor Bishop Michael Coyner and we will provide a strong financial witness and welcome for our New Bishop in 2016.
President of CF&A
