INDIANAPOLIS - Leadership Development presented the 2015 General Board of Higher Education’s Francis Asbury Award to the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Gibbs. This award recognizes and encourages the support of higher education and campus ministries within The United Methodist Church. The award offers recognition to individuals who have made a significant contribution to fostering the church's ministries in higher education at the local, district, or annual conference level of the church.

Dr. Gibbs serves as the Co-Chaplain & Director of the Lantz Center for Christian Vocations & Formation at United Methodist related school University of Indianapolis. In his role as Director of the Lantz Center for Christian Vocations & Formations, Dr. Gibbs has been instrumental with investing in next generation leaders for many years.

College students in his courses are discerning a call to vocational or faithful lay ministry, and many are deployed into local United Methodist congregations, serving in various capacities.

Additionally, Dr. Gibbs ensures these students become mentors and small group leaders for the Indiana Conference’s annual Bishop’s Student Leadership Academy. These college students are able to model for high-schoolers who attend the Student Leadership Academy, the possibilities of being devoted to a call to ministry at a young age, but more importantly showing how God is indeed calling young people to ministry.
The ways in which Dr. Gibb’s passion to encourage students to recognize their God gifts and avail those gifts in helping to resolve the world’s greatest needs supports the legacy of Francis Asbury. Leadership Development believes the work that Dr. Gibbs provides at the University of Indianapolis will yield the United Methodist Church with greater leaders, young and diverse, that will accomplish the mission of making disciples and transforming the world.
