INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana United Methodist Conference Director of Church Development, the Rev. David Neckers, announced April 15 the hiring of Indiana native Ann A. Handschu of Terre Haute as the new Indiana Conference Associate Director of Church Development assigned to the Southwest and West Districts. She began serving in this position from her home April 15.
Upon her hiring, Neckers said, “Ann has been a valuable asset to the Indiana Conference as a coach, seminar facilitator and teacher. Her expertise in helping revitalize churches is indispensable to our Indiana United Methodist Conference.”
Her coaching responsibilities have included continuous training for congregations, lay leadership and staff; providing tools and resources; holding teams and individuals accountable for fruitful outcomes; support and “tough love” to pastors and leaders; teaching strategic planning and goals setting directed by the mission and their vision; monthly reporting and accountability to the coaching supervisor. Prior to her current position, she directed an effort to increase the skills and effectiveness of lay leadership teams in the West District by facilitating workshops and trainings for the district’s churches. She also has had leadership experience as the Adult Discipleship Servant at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Terre Haute.
Before moving back to Indiana in 2002, Handschu served on the staff of Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City, Ohio, where she established and maintained opportunities for adults to continually mature as disciples of Christ. She taught multiple classes each year with a real passion especially for the seeker and new believer.
Handschu also has worked as alumni and parent services experience at Franklin (Ind.) College and Drury University at Springfied, Mo., as well as the job placement coordinator at Indiana Vocational Technical College in Kokomo. She holds a BA degree in Sociology from Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
