INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Bishop Michael J. Coyner announced today, Feb. 18, the appointment of the Rev. Charlie Wilfong, Superintendent of Indiana’s South District of The United Methodist Church based in Georgetown, to senior pastor of the Plainfield United Methodist Church in Plainfield, Ind. effective July 1.
The Rev. Ted Blosser, current senior pastor at Plainfield, will retire effective July 1. He has served the Plainfield church since 2008.
Wilfong began his tenure as Superintendent to the South District Jan. 1, 2010, with the beginning of the new Indiana Conference. Prior to that appointment, he was Superintendent of the former New Albany District beginning Dec. 1, 2007. He was ordained an Elder in 1987. During his ministry, Wilfong has served Indiana churches in Evansville, Madison, Corydon and Greensburg.
Upon Wilfong’s appointment, Coyner said, “I am sorry to lose Charlie from the Cabinet where he has been an effective Superintendent in the former New Albany District and the new South District. However, he was nearing the end of his tenure, and he will be an excellent match for the needs of the Plainfield congregation. I wish Charlie and Donna well as they make this transition to a new appointment.”
