Church dedicates picnic shelter
Maple Hill United Methodist Church has been working for two years to build a shelter on its grounds in honor of a church member who passed away almost three years ago. Fund raising began in 2012 and thanks to a large benefactor the Lois Barnard Memorial Shelter is a reality. Volunteers built the structure on Saturdays using reclaimed lumber for old farm buildings set for demolition.
The shelter will be open to all in the area at no charge. The church discovered that there is not much close to their community for families to bring their children to a safe environment. The church grounds have a very peaceful setting with lots of trees.
Plans for the shelter include a safe fire pit and possible stone fireplace/grill.
